As the 987 model Boxster heads towards its 20th anniversary, genuine 1 owner cars are becoming few and far between. Here we have a 987.1 Boxster 3.2 S that was ordered by its doctor owner from Porsche Centre Exeter in May 2006, and stayed with him until we bought it earlier this month. Now having covered just 56,707 miles (the vast majority of which were completed by 2015), WA06KZZ is in superb mechanical condition, having been the subject of significant recent expenditure to address all the normal 987 ageing issues – the coolant system, water pump and AC condensers being the usual suspects!

Th car was ordered with very few factory options – just extended leather, 18″ “crab-claw” wheels and a top tinted windscreen. This results in a lightweight Boxster S that feels like a real roadster with the roof down, as it has no wind deflector or mesh inserts in the roll over bar. As a M96 3.2-litre car, it is not vulnerable to bore scoring that can affect the M97 3.4-litre engine fitted to most 987 Boxster S models, but is fitted with the bigger IMS bearing that became standard in the 2005 model year. Being registered in May 2006 must make WA06KZZ one of the very last 987 Boxsters fitted with the 3.2 engine.

The service history is good, with 6 stamps in the service record, the first three from Porsche Centres up to 2012 and 43,127 miles, the next three from Porsche specialists, including our own preparation of the car in March 2024 at 56,533 miles. In addition to routine maintenance, the car has also had the following works completed in the last two years:

• replacement of coolant radiators, July 2022 at 55,106 miles
• replacement of rear control module, August 2023 at 56,195 miles
• replacement of water pump, coolant hoses and crossover pipes, February 2024 at 56,497 miles
• replacement of lambda sensor in exhaust, February 2024 at 56,499 miles
• replacement of AC condensers, inner track rods, rear discs and pads, rear coolant hoses, radiator bleed valve and heat exchanger seals, March 2024 at 56,533 miles
• new tyres fitted – Michelin Pilot Sport N4, March 2024 at 56,533 miles

Mechanically the car is in superb order, and delivers a stirring driving experience, with real punch from the 280bhp flat six engine, slick gearchanges and precise balanced handling. The suspension is supple and free from creaks, rattles or knocks, and the steering full of feel like only a good hydraulic power steering setup can deliver.

The Arctic Silver paintwork is all original, and there are few stone chips around the car, along with a couple of minor dings to the rear bumper edges, and some light scratches to the paint in the drivers door shut. The wheels have not been refurbished and have some bubbling to the paint but no kerb marks to the rims. The roof is in excellent condition with almost no creasing to the fabric, and the interior is also very good, with minimal wear to the seat leather bolsters and facings, and the leather dash and door cards. The carpets are in good order, with just a bit of wear to the drivers carpet mat edge.
