Porsche Boxster & Cayman for sale

Porsche 987.1 Cayman S "Clubsport" (2006)

£16,995

Sold

We are delighted to welcome back the first Cayman S we sold back in 2018. Now advertised for sale privately on behalf of the current owner, who bought it from us to use sparingly on track days, and has further developed the car into an extremely purposeful, yet still road usable, track car.

KX06 DMU is an exhilarating 987.1 Cayman S with an interesting history. Bought new in 2006 by a retired gentleman who retained his love of driving tours and track days, he had the car upgraded for track use in 2011 by Porsche works driver Nick Tandy’s JTR Racing, with the addition of a Heigo Clubsport half cage, a pair of 997 GT3 carbon-shelled bucket seats with 4 point harnesses, lowering springs and race brake pads. He sold his Cayman S 8 years later in 2014, having realised at 80 years of age it was probably time to “hang up the helmet”. Good on you, sir!

It then went through a couple more owners, one of whom kept the car at his second home in Murcia for a while, before Flat Six Classics purchased it in early 2018. We prepared the car thoroughly with a Minor service, brake fluid change, new front and rear brake discs and pads, new AC condensers and a set of ignition coils. We also had the 19″ Sport Design wheels refurbished and fitted a super-rare set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres.

Sold to its current owner, a retired BA Captain, in May 2018, he has further developed the car for track use, with all the work carried out by Martin Reed, the same Porsche specialist we use for all our preparation work. The development work focussed on three areas – brakes, suspension and weight reduction. The car now features a set of yellow Bilstein B6 upside down dampers with 10mm lowering springs, new top mounts, Performance Friction 2-piece floating front discs and PFC brake pads, and a significant amount of weight reduction via careful removal of the interior carpets, underlay, soundproofing and trim from the cabin, front and rear luggage compartments. All the parts removed have been retained, and all elements could be re-fitted easily if one wished to return the interior to standard. The Heigo half rollcage is out of the car, but could be reinstated (the harness bar remains fitted). The bill for all this work in August 2019 exceeded £7,000.

Needless to say, the impact of all this work is impressive – the car drives with real purpose, the performance is strong but it is the suspension and brakes that dominate the experience, with suppleness and control from the Bilstein suspension, and amazing power and feel through the brake pedal. I have not driven the car on track, but it is supremely balanced with great roadholding, and highly rewarding on the excellent roads around our Exmoor base.

The owner has decided to emigrate to Portugal and has asked Flat Six Classics to handle the sale of the car on his behalf. It is a private sale and no warranty is offered or implied. The car is available for any independent inspection at our North Devon premises.

Please call Sean on 07595 455568 if you would like more details on this special car, or to arrange to come and see it.
